Oopsie-Boopsie

Today is my hair appointment day. My hair has become the coat (or hat, I guess) of many colors . . . and many textures. I’ve decided that my stylist is a genius. Every two months or so, I go to her, wanting the exact same look, yet every time I go to her, I feel like I am bringing her a different head of hair to work with. My grays are popping out like weeds these days. When I pull one out, six more arrive, the next day, in revenge. Lately I feel like my real hair is like a clearance, bargain wig. It looks like it is a mish-mash of whatever hair they had left to work with, all sewn together, trying to create a semblance of order, but failing miserably. I’m not brave enough to stop coloring, so I honestly have no idea what my natural hair looks like anymore. I haven’t seen it in years . . . . decades, actually. I’ve always loved my stylist, but the older I get, the more dependent on her, I’ve become. She is one of my lifelines. She is one of my “emergency numbers.” All of you middle-aged women understand this, I know. Tell your stylist your love him or her today. They truly are the wizards of our lifetime. They transform us into “us” at least five times a year, no matter what materials we bring them to work with and at the same time, pretend like is a piece of cake.

  1. Silvering Up, myself. Trying to dye grey hair is like trying to dye steel wool. Scared of stylists anyway. Last time I went in to have my bangs thinned out, she thought that meant shorter and before I knew it, I had bangs like Mamie Eisenhower. I am actually envious of you having someone to trust with your coloring & styling.

    1. The steel wool thing is so true, Sandi! Yes, I am very lucky. My stylist is a friend, therapist, angel, artist and genius.

        1. Sanding- I’m Canadian and not so familiar with older presidential wives so I looked her up. She had quite a look! But I look back at some of my photos from years ago and cringe……

          1. “Sanding”. I just love auto-spelling correction, don’t you? Absolutely no worries 🙂 !

  2. My stylist is a magician! I know I am totally silver because I grew it out several years ago. Decided I was too young to be grey (I wasn’t…) and went back to colouring my hair. Spending enough to support a small third world country every 5 weeks. Discussed it with my stylist and I’m ‘transitioning’ to silver with her help. Also growing out my hair including the bangs which is harder than I thought it would be. What would I do without this magical stylist? She’s fantastic and worth every penny but I’m hoping to be completely fabulously silver soon!

    1. If I could know that my hair would turn out to be the gorgeous silvery, white, shiny hair my grandfather had, I might get brave enough to go for it, but the preview strands, show my grays to look a bit more dull and frizzy. 🙁
