You’re OK

I’m getting “back to normal” (whatever that means) today, after a busy day of appointments and being out of the house, all day yesterday. For reasons that I cannot fully explain to myself or to others, I have been in a particularly “feeling good”, centered, calm, “go with the flow” kind of a mood, the last few days. (Take that, middle aged hormone fluctuations!!! You can’t keep me down!!!)

I read one of my online meditations today. (Think Smarter – I just can’t get enough of these tweets). I really liked the last line of it. I think this is something that we all need to hear, to know, to absorb, to feel, every single day of our lives. Here goes (you are going to want to enlarge it, print it and keep it somewhere cemented in your mind):

No need to worry just live and let be.

You’re OK and everything will be OK.

Real Beauty

I took the above from my favorite Twitter feed. (Think Smarter) Is it just me or does there seem to be so much emphasis on physical looks these days? Or do I just think about it more because I am getting older? When I think about a famous beautiful person who probably aged more gracefully than just about anybody, it had to be Audrey Hepburn. In her words:

Real beauty is timeless and breathtaking.

Wonderful and Enough

Did you know that a baby puffin is called a puffling? And they’re adorable! I was just getting caught up on Nature’s Lovers on Twitter, one of my favorite all-time Twitter feeds. Honestly, I went to Twitter this morning hoping to glean some amazing nugget of wisdom that I could write about on my blog, but instead I just savored the cuteness of a variety of baby animals and took in some pictures of nature that were so beautiful, they took my breath away. Sometimes, that’s the wisdom, isn’t it? Don’t analyze, don’t pontificate, don’t puzzle over and try to explain. Just be. Just enjoy. Just breathe. Breathe it all in.

This has been a week of a lot of simple chores for me. Pedicure. Car wash. Salon appointment. Lots of laundry. Doctor’s appointment for a stuffed up ear. Taxiing my daughter to and from tennis try-outs. It sounds boring and it is kind of boring and methodical, but sometimes the most mundane tasks bring the most satisfaction when they are completed. Checking things off of the list, gives us a sense of order and accomplishment, in a world that otherwise, often seems complicated and chaotic.

TGIF TGIF TGIF

“Thursday doesn’t even count as a day, it’s just the thing that’s blocking Friday.” – anonymous

We got past our blocks!!!  Happy Friday!!!  New readers, I keep it very Friday on Fridays.  Meaning, I don’t go heavy and deep.  On Friday, I discuss three favorite things of mine and explain a little why I think that these items are so fantastic.  On a different note, although participation has been spotty, I do encourage my readers to comment about their favorite items in the comment section.  Recently, someone dear to me, apologized for commenting on my blog and said that she didn’t realize that the comments were public. What?!?  Why?!?  I LOVE COMMENTS!  I see the numbers and stats of people reading my blog.  I know you are out there.  I would LOVE to get to know you better!  I would love discourse and new perspectives on my quirky thoughts.  Please don’t ever, ever hesitate to comment.  You can even disagree.  I can take it.  I’m tough, especially on Fridays.

On to Favorite Things Friday:

ELLE magazine – As beautiful as the fashion layouts are in this magazine, I don’t subscribe to it for that reason.  I don’t wear $4,000 blouses.  I love to leaf through all that beauty and style, quickly, to get to the reason why I will always subscribe to Elle.  I love the advice column by “Auntie E” – E. Jean Carroll.  Her answers to fascinating questions are always so sure, confident, illuminating and inspiring.  I’m pretty sure there is no one in this world who has more moxie and panache than E. Jean.  She’s 74 and appears to be one of the most “hip, with-it” ladies this side of the Mississippi.  She’s hilarious, kind, direct and on-point.  E. Jean Carroll has a great website covering her column, as well, and has created other businesses along the way, like a game app and a dating service.  I’m a huge fan of Auntie E.

Think Smarter twitter feed – This is like getting your daily mantra for life, every day.  Each day, whoever created this amazing feed, finds one totally amazing thought-provoking post that just makes my jaw drop.  I typically think about the post for the rest of the day, in a good way.  If you think you already know all there is to know about life, follow this feed and you will be humbled.  “Think Smarter” is the perfect title for it.  Love it!

Digest Gold – It makes me nervous to suggest dietary supplements on my blog.  I think I should add a disclaimer to talk to your trusted doctor about anything you ingest.  That being said, if you have digestion issues, this over-the-counter supplement made a world of difference for me and so, I recommend that you try it.  No matter what age I have been throughout my life, my stomach has always been geriatric.  I think I have probably had IBS since I was about 8-years-old.  I would do anything for a harmless, painless needle that I could use intermittently to pop my gut and let all that air out, ideally quietly and discreetly.  Anyway, Digest Gold has made a big difference for me in the ways of comfort and relief.  I take it daily.

The Confession

I have a confession to make today.  It’s about my biggest guilty pleasure these days.  Okay, here goes:  I love to watch TLC’s “90 Day Fiance’ Before the 90 Days” and I love to read the Twitter feed while I’m watching it.

A reader of my blog:  OMG.

Me:  I know.  Ugh.  I’m sorry.  It just feels so good to just get this off of my chest.

Reader:  Wow.

Me:  I know.  It’s not a good look.  It’s really “yuck.” I know.

Reader:  It’s trash TV!!!!  It’s Jerry Springer on steroids!!!!  What are you thinking?!?

Me:  Well, it’s just kind of relaxing.  It’s on Sunday nights.  You know, the end of the weekend is always such a disappointment; such a “m-whah, m-whah.”  It kind of keeps my mind off of Monday.

Reader:  You know, I was starting to give you the benefit of the doubt.  I was starting to think that you were sort of intelligent and that you had some interesting things to say.  Wow.

Me: I know.  I hate that I like it.  It’s an exploitative, sad and pathetic TV show.

Reader: Uh huh!  Yep.

Me:  I think I’m just going to finish out this season and be done with it.

Reader:  And the tweets are so mean!!!

Me:  I know.  I don’t write any of them.  I just read them.  And laugh.  I do laugh.  Ugh.

Reader:  They are mean with those memes!

Me:  You are so right.  I mean, they are funny tweets, but some of them are mean.

Reader:  Uh-huh.  Yep!

Me:  Wait, how do you know what the tweets are like for “90 Day Fiance'”??
