My husband and I have a little getaway planned this weekend for just the two of us. We need it. I think that we both have morphed into “grumpy old men” lately.

We were talking to our daughter last night about her first impressions of college. She loves it. And although she still plans on being a finance major, she thinks that she may minor in Astronomy (she’s had two days of Astronomy class and she LOVES it.) And finally, the only downside of being in college that she sees so far, is that there are people everywhere and anywhere. She can never escape from people. (Yep, she definitely has our genes.)

If you need a good cry, please cry. Cry. Tears are our bodies’ release valve. You’ll feel better after you cry. I always do. I consider myself to be a happy, strong person and I cry a lot.

Be someone’s miracle today. Yes, you do have that power. It’s been built right into your kind heart. Many kind hearts have been my miracles over the many years of my life. I am so grateful for the walking miracles all around me.

Hi Kelly,
I hope you won’t mind me taking up some blog space.
When I read the quote, “Sometimes miracles are just people with kind hearts.” It made me think of the miracle I experienced yesterday at Publix. In our local Publix, there is a young man who works there, Jason, who, I believe, has autism. He is well functioning, but it is obvious that he has some challenges. So yesterday, as I was checking out, he was bagging someone’s groceries and a 6 pack of glass bottle soda (pop, if your from Pittsburgh…) fell and it made a lot of noise and a lot of mess. Jason was stunned and as soon as it happened, the young man, who was helping me, quickly, and quite instinctually asked Jason to see him hands, to make sure he was not cut. Then, the managers came over and began the messy clean up. The other cashier, the one he was working with, politely escorted him over to my lane, and said to him, maybe you could help over here. NO ONE got rattled, NO ONE got upset with him. I see this young man almost every day, since I’m in Publix almost every day and we chat. We usually see him & his dad at church on Sunday, and Jason will often ask me a church related question. It is very sweet.
Seeing him so often, I can attest to the fact, that not everyone is nice to him, and not everyone chats with him.
I was so taken back by all of this, I had to write the manager of Publix a note and thank them for what I experienced. I also added in the note:
I love seeing Jason, I love seeing the kindness exhibited by his coworkers. He brightens my day & I’m sure a lot of others. In my opinion, Jason is a good thing for Publix, for all of us. Some may be a little taken back because he is a little different… Happy! Carefree! Out-going! And as quoted from Jason, “I am living the dream at Publix!” (So funny when he says it.)
What a ‘miracle’ I witnessed and what a blessing that young man is. Miracles happen all around us, some people are so kind, it is noteworthy!
PS Glad to hear your daughter is adjusting well, I think of YOU often.
Oh Joan, thank you for sharing this story! I love Jason and his coworkers and I have never even met him, but you make them all sound so delightful. Living the dream! I love it!
