Funky Friday

Happy Friday!! Happy Favorite Things Friday!!! On Fridays on the blog, I’m all about the stuff in life – the literal “stuff” that makes life more interesting to live. Please see previous Friday posts for more of my favorite stuff, and please feel free to add any of your own goodies to my Comments section.

This past spring when we were in Belgium, we stopped in a store that I would say was a great deal like our Five Below chain of stores. It had rows and rows of cheap, everyday stuff, and even a whole section of party products. (It also had this truly obscene section, right out in the open, for all eyes of all ages to see, that let’s just say would have been the right place to purchase stuff for a really vulgar bachelor or bachelorette party. I’m always intrigued by the different standards, different societies have about all sorts of things, but I’m sure that we “prudes with machine guns” Americans, raise a lot of foreign eyebrows, too.)

In the store I bought a dish brush that looks like a goth woman. She had a tag on her that said “Funky Lady” and I still smile when “Funky Lady” and I do the dishes. I also purchased today’s favorite of mine, in that store. It looks like a teeny, flexible plastic rake, for a teeny doll. It is meant to clean hair brushes, and it does a fabulous job of it. I looked on Amazon and you can purchase similar hair brush cleaners there, but I was surprised to see that they are not highly rated in the reviews. Mine is wonderful. It works splendidly! These little rakes are not expensive, so you may want to give one of them a try, especially if your hair brush is looking a tad woolly.

Have an amazing start to your weekend, friends!! See you tomorrow!

Celebrate Friday

Happy Friday Quotes | Best Motivational Quotes For Weekend

I like the perspective of the above meme. Friday isn’t just about anticipating the frivolity of the weekend, it is also about celebrating all that you have experienced and you have accomplished during a week in your life. When I have a day that I wonder where the time went, or I am feeling unaccomplished, I look for the “wins”. I look for just three things that I completed or I experienced that day, and I always am surprised by the fact that more happened in any one particular day, than I realized. With that in mind, by each Friday, you have at least fifteen “wins” by the end of the work week.

My regular readers know that Friday, being my favorite day of the week, is devoted to “favorites”. On Favorite Things Friday, I list three favorite things, or songs, or products, or places, etc. that have made my life experience even better. I strongly encourage you to list some of your favorites in my Comments section, so we all have some fun things to try and out and experience over the weekend. Anticipation is delicious. Here are my favorites for today:

DEVS – This Hulu series is fascinating. It is just eight episodes, and that is it. DEVS is all wrapped up in one season, which is comforting for me, a person who tends to want to binge on any TV series, which I find to be super intriguing and thought provoking. DEVS is an eerie science fiction show made by the creator of the fascinating thriller movie, Ex Machina. The only negative thing I have to say about this series, is that you are forced to watch intermittent advertisements throughout each episode. Interestingly, last night when my husband and I were watching the last episode of DEVS, we got to choose which Hills Science Diet commercial we wanted to watch – dog or cat. We’re dog people. It was kind of like, “Pick your punishment” but at least we felt like we had some sort of say in the matter.

Nestle Tollhouse Disco Chips – My local grocery store hasn’t gotten these in yet, but I can’t wait until they do. I look for them on my every trip to the store. (which is almost daily) Disco chips are chocolate chips with edible sparkles/glitter in them. How do you spell fun and delicious?! D-I-S-C-O-C-H-I-P-S I’m not sure if the chips are actually fun and delicious, because I haven’t even seen or eaten them yet, but as I repeat from above, anticipation is often the most delicious part of any kind of adventure, epicurean and beyond . . .

Ball Sort Puzzle – This is my new favorite phone game. I see that I have a theme going with phone games. I really enjoy the sorting games, mostly because I am pretty damn good at them. (It must be from all of those years of sorting laundry for a large family.) In this game you have to get four matching colored balls into each “test tube” which are filled with multi-colored balls, all mixed up. It’s sort of like a rubik’s cube in test tubes. It is a simple game, but not necessarily an easy one.

Okay, I am going to have to insist that you, my beloved and appreciated readers, have an amazing weekend! Anticipate, experience, devour, reflect, rest, enjoy.

Favorite Things Friday the 2nd

Happy Friday!!!!  Why are Fridays so great?  I think it’s all about the anticipation.  Even if you don’t have weekend plans, it’s the deliciousness of not having plans, to be free to your whims is what makes weekends so much fun.  For years and years and years our weekends were taken up by travel soccer, softball, basketball tournaments, robotics events, etc. etc. etc.  My husband and I were often two ships passing each other on our ways to opposite ends of our city or our state, depending on the events.  When we first started having free weekends, we were a little shell-shocked.  It was hard to be without a schedule.  Now, we embrace our freedom to explore and to adventure together.  Life is magic!

On to favorite things:

Aityvert Solar Torch Lights – Oh my!  This is my latest set of favorite things in the world. They make me excited for darkness!  Last weekend my husband and I took a walk around a neighborhood we don’t typically walk around. (On an aside, I have read that walking in areas that are new to you is not just great for you physically, but is also wonderful for your mental health.  It helps you see things/issues/problems in new perspectives.  Try it!)  Anyway, we saw these wonderful sidewalk lights decorating this beautiful, old Victorian home.  I thought they must be gas powered because they look exactly like real fire.  But they are not!  They are solar powered.  They don’t even require batteries!  My son didn’t know that we bought them and he almost ran out to our backyard with a hose because he thought someone had kept a summer campfire going.  These are just awesome. 🙂

Grey Free by Guiliano – These “mascara wand style” grey hairs coverage are my go-to helpers in between my salon appointments.  Gone are the days for me, when my beauty routine was “quick and easy”.  Everything is a chore and a drawn out process.  My salon appointments take at least half a day, so I spread them out as long as I possibly can.  I’ve tried crayons and shampoo-in type grey coverage, but I always come back to these babies.  My greys tend to be in clumps in different sections of my hair, so this mascara wand style really works for me and the color stays put until it is washed out.  They are inexpensive and come in many different shades.  The only downside is that they don’t seem to have a long shelf life.  They get an “off smell” if they are kept too long.

No. 7 Airbrush Away Pore Minimizing Primer – I found out about this wonderful product through one of those magazine articles that takes reader polls about “the best of the best” in beauty products.   I find beauty product selections so overwhelming these days that I prefer to go with recommendations from friends and trusted sources.  This primer is absolutely perfect when you need to “save face” – meaning that you don’t want to look like the Joker by the end of a hot and humid summer day.  If you want your make-up to have staying power, than start with this product and you’ll be good to go for the whole day!  The best part is that you can buy it in places like Target and Walgreens.

Three’s the magic number.  Thank you for reading my blog!  Have a fantastic weekend!
