Soul Sunday

Happy Father’s Day!! Sundays are devoted to poetry on the blog. Write your dad or your husband a poem today. They’ll get a charge out of it. You’ll get a charge out of it, too.

“Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singers of song.” – Pam Brown

“Superman”

When she called you “Superman”, she saw what I already knew

Not just to the broad shoulders and the handsome face, she was drew,

She saw the big heart beneath it all, the part that really makes you, you!

When it comes to devotion, rock solid reliability, and to your word being true,

Not many can even dare to compare, I imagine that there are very few.

You are my greatest love. My love for you will forever ensue.

For all the gifts you’ve given me, I am most grateful for our “crew.”

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I love you.

Are you passing on love or are you passing on pain? Heal your pain and pass on love.

Here is the question of the day from 3000 Questions About Me:

174. If you could be a bird, which would you be?

Soul Sunday

Happy Father’s Day! We have a lot of plans for the next 48 hours, so tomorrow’s post won’t be happening until late in the afternoon. (please don’t worry, late is better than never) Sundays are devoted to poetry on the blog. “Poetry lifts the veil from the hidden beauty of the world, and makes familiar objects be as if they were not familiar.” — Percy Bysshe Shelley This is my poem for my husband today:

I always knew that you’d make a great Dad.

You’re the perfect mix of who I’d want our boys to be,

And making our daughter feel so loved and protected,

That she’ll accept nothing less for herself,

because you have shown her the way it feels to be adored.

You have made so many of my dreams come true,

This beautiful family which we have co-authored,

Tells the story of the greatest of these dreams.

Three men and a baby girl, ours to treasure for eternity.

Are you passing on love or are you passing on pain? Heal your pain and pass on love.

Soul Sunday

Are you passing on love or are you passing on pain? Heal your pain and pass on love.

Happy Father’s Day!! It was so interesting raising our four children, together with my husband. There are many times when I watched my husband in awe. I would think, (perhaps with a little bit of competitive chagrin) “Oh, wow, he handled that so much better than I did.” There is no doubt in any of our minds that my husband is entirely devoted to our family. We are his purpose and his passion and for that, I am forever grateful.

Sundays are devoted to poetry on the blog. Poetry speaks in the movement of spirit. In many ways, poetry is otherworldly. It offers portals into other unseen places. My son is taking a Stress Management course this summer (a course required by his university’s business management program. This is good progress.) Yesterday, my son had to color a mandala, as an assignment for the class. Now coloring and art has never been his forte, and so when he showed his finished assignment, he was poking fun at some of his color choices and coloring outside of the lines. I reminded him that coloring the mandala was never about the end result, but more so about the mindfulness of doing the project, and the relaxation that this would bring. This is the same with writing poetry. It requires concentration and diving deep. The end result really isn’t all that important. Poems that speak to me, might not speak to you. But the poets, when writing the poems, spoke to themselves, from the depths of their own souls and from the wilds of their own imaginations, and time stood still for them. Listen to your wild soul today. Write down the poem and hear what it has to say to you. Here is my poem for the day:

You are the best gift which I ever gave to our children

Your steadfastness, your devotion, your selflessness,

Allowed me to build a soft nest on a solid, steady, rock,

That remained unbroken and safe, even in the worst of storms.

Your strong arms held us steadfast through it all,

And I never questioned that they wouldn’t.

I have loved your strong arms, since they first held me.

And I can think of no better arms to hold tight our family.

Happy Father’s Day! Happy Soul Sunday. My regular readers know that Sundays are devoted to poetry. The dictionary says this about poetry: “a quality of beauty and intensity of emotion regarded as characteristic of poems.” I think what makes poems special, is that despite the fact that poems are often some of the shortest forms of writing, they hold so much “intensity of emotion”. Poems are powerful in their sensitivities. Poems often have the ability to deliver a big gut punch, or an instant throat lump, or a swift connection to our inner knowing. Poetry is potent. Here is my poem for today:

When your seldom seen tears, flowed at the birth of M,

When you became G’s biggest bussing fan, at Daddy’s Grill.

When you held our giant man-child W, like a baby,

In an attempt to transfer strength and take away the pain.

When you proudly became Dancing Dinosaur,

at the Guides meetings with our baby girl.

When you held every baby, against your big broad chest,

On every vacation, to give them and me, the most lovely rests of our lives.

These are the moments that make me in awe of you.

These are the moments that remind me why I love you like I do.

Your love encompasses our family with your devotion,

Like the warmest blanket, on a cool, dark night.

I am so grateful that every one of them, has a part of you inside.

You have selflessly given each of them, a big chunk of your beautiful heart.

And that is why I know they will always be safe and loved,

Because I listen to your strong and steady and reliable heartbeat,

Every night. It is the most calming, lovely sound in the world, to me.

And it echoes through our children, forever.

Soul Sunday

Happy Father’s Day!! I am blessed by the men in my life. As a woman, I understand that not everyone can say that, so I am utterly and completely grateful. New readers, Sundays are devoted to poetry. On Sundays, I either write a poem or share a poem written by someone else and I strongly encourage you to add your poems in my Comments section. I consider Sundays to be a poetry workshop day for us. There is no judgment, just creative wordplay and word flow. Please see previous Sunday posts for more poetry to feed your soul.

To My Husband and the Father of My Children

When I fell in love with you

We were just kids ourselves.

Now our own children are mostly grown.

Yet . . . .

With all of your accomplishments,

With all of your roguish competitiveness,

With all of your dreams and dedication,

There was never, ever a doubt in my mind,

That our family was the heart of it all, for you.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The Good Guys

Happy Father’s Day!

Here’s to all of the good guys out there and there is a lot more of them out there, then the media wants to portray. Here’s to all of the good guys who are devoted to their families, who love their wives and provide for their kids. Here’s to all of the good guys who make sure that their families are safe, protected and warm. Here’s to all of the good guys who lovingly keep up their homes and always offer a helping hand to their friends and neighbors. Here’s to all of the good guys who serve our communities, our countries, and our God. Here’s to all of the good guys who attend yet another little sluggers game that their child or grandchild is playing in, versus playing another round of golf. Here’s to all of the good guys who have devoted their lives to a bigger cause (their families, their purposeful work, their duties and responsibilities) than just their own personal wants and needs. Here’s to all of the good guys out there! There are a ton of you! I am married to one. We see you all every day. We don’t say thank you. We take you for granted until one jerk messes up and then we lump you in with the “jerks.” But I know that there are a lot more good guys out there than there are jerks. Good guys just quietly, graciously, go about doing their thing – being strong, silent, devoted men without crying out for attention or gratitude. Good guys don’t finish last. Good guys last. Good guys are solid. They last through turmoil, upheaval, all of the highs and lows of life, and they do this all stably, with strong, firm chins and a vision for the future. Here’s to all of the good guys! We see you. We appreciate you and everything that you do for us.
